  • Following in Denmark’s Carbon Footsteps

    Greenhouse gases are rising due to negligence of developed nations not enforcing laws to reduce carbon emissions and transitioning to greener energy. These countries’ contributions would otherwise be the most significant to battling climate change. A rising frontrunner in the battle against climate change is Denmark, the region being covered in our project. Climate neutrality can be obtained in the foreseeable future if countries incorporate Denmark’s goals of reducing carbon emissions significantly into their own national policies, strategies, and planning.

  • The Forsaken Rights of Terrorized Middle Eastern Women

    Women in the middle east face systematic discrimination and are left exposed to domestic violence in their own homes, due to the cultural norms which place men above women. Women in the middle east are shunned and forced into a life they didn’t choose by the men in their life. Ever since 1983, wearing a hijab became mandatory in Iran, and the punishments for breaking this law are very severe.

  • Crisis: Pollution In The Mediterranean Sea

    The Mediterranean Sea is in danger of a loss of biodiversity and nutrients because of increased pollution from irresponsible human activities such as the improper disposal of plastic, water travel, and chemical spills. Despite treaties and policies being implemented to reduce the amount of plastic in the Sea, the Mediterranean is still considered one of the most polluted bodies of water in the world.

  • Poverty in Ethiopia

    Extreme poverty is an issue throughout Ethiopia that has caused many of its citizens to live in unsanitary and poor conditions. A possible solution to solve such conditions can be in the form of renovating and building new shelters and homes for its people.

  • Inanição: Hunger in Brazil

    Despite Brazil's rich agricultural resources, the persistent challenge of hunger and malnutrition continues to afflict a significant portion of its population; this pressing issue is rooted in a complex interplay of factors, including poverty, inequality, political instability, and inadequate social policies. It is imperative that we, as a society take action to prevent the further decline of Brazil’s food security.

  • Palestine and Isreal: The Ongoing Conflict

    The State of Israel has failed to follow the Paris principle that states, “a national institution must promote and protect human rights.” Palestinian citizens have been subjected to acts of apartheid by horrific acts of violence such as forcing brutal transfer, colonizing their land, and torturing innocent children and people.

  • Gender Inequality in Mexico

    Gender Inequality in Mexico is unfavorable for women due to the fact(s) that more than half of the women in Mexico have been victims of some forms of violence, are restricted from programs that provide them with benefits such a protection from poverty and healthcare, and receive a 10th less salary than men in the same industry.

  • Iranian Protests

    During the current rule of the Islamic regime in Iran strict dress code is enforced and freedom of religion isn’t allowed. Protests started with the death of a young twenty three year old woman Mahsa Amini. It was told that she broke the dress code and the mortality police took her and beat her to death. Celebrities athletes, and many people in Iran have tried to spread awareness about this.The Islamic regime of Iran has not let up even amid the protests.

    Mexico's drug war is one of the most violent conflicts on the planet with the cartel and criminal activity expanding through the levels of their economy and society.

  • Lost in the Margins: Examining Poverty in Burundi

    Poverty is a serious problem affecting many less developed countries such as Burundi. The extreme poverty rates in the country are linked to high mortality rates, and a lack of basic social infrastructure and food security. Poverty in Burundi is caused by overpopulation, a lack of healthcare, a reliance on subsistence agriculture, and other forms of poor economic planning and management from the government. This project aims to analyze some of the root causes of poverty in Burundi and possible solutions to this crisis.

  • Gender inequality in Saudi Arabia

    In Saudi Arabia women have been facing in righteous problems of them not being equal to man. They have been dealing with this problem of a long time, in consquences of having childern being taken away, and being abused. We need to help put the equal between man and women.

  • Education Quality in Niger

    Our project is focused on Niger’s poor education quality(student teacher ratio, funding, communication, etc.) and how to improve the current situation.

Senior Capstone Speakers

Amanda Ramirez

Amanda Ramirez is a current senior at Travis High school and one of the founding members of The German Ukrainian Friendship Program (GUFP)-a nonprofit started during her time abroad in Germany. The GUFP was originally formed to help incoming refugees and to provide a bridge between separate cultures. United by unforeseen circumstances, the organization brings awareness, hosts and plans community events, and aids in assimilation through language learning and friendship. Before her time in the GUFP, Amanda lived and studied during her senior year in Germany and was a member of the Youth Advisory Council overseen By the US Consulate General of North Germany, General Darion Adkins. Here she met with other American and German youth to discuss international relations representing the voice of the younger generation in current events and within NATO and served as a Youth Ambassador for the United States. She now works to expand this program in her community and to help bridge the gap in language and communication as she works to pursue a career in the medical field.

Shifa Ali

Shifa Ali, Class of 23, is a current Senior at Travis High school and has dedicated her senior year towards researching and advocating for awareness on reproductive rights. She focused her research on Reproductive Rights due to the lack of education and attention received by people throughout the world and locally in her community. Through her time in high school, Shifa devoted her time to travel and through experience was able to see the different ways cultures handled reproductive education and it broadened her Global Perspective on the world. Shifa hopes to further and deepen the accessibility to education and hopes to pursue a career where she can help women with understanding their rights and destigmatize sex education.
