FBISD Global Studies Academy
The Global Studies Academy exists to equip students to effectively solve the challenges society will face in the future while developing multi-faceted global citizens. Students are empowered to become innovative global thinkers who celebrate diversity. The Academy also fosters leadership by exposing its members to a variety of situations from a globally integrated perspective while offering opportunities in student government, community service and cultural awareness activities.
As a part of this mission, we host an annual student-run event called the Global Issues Summit (GIS) to spread awareness about a range of global concerns to students and community members as well as inform them about the measures being taken to alleviate these issues and what they can do to help, hence our motto turning awareness into action.

About the Summit
Inspired by the United Nations, the Summit will include speeches from professionals, representatives from various non-profit organizations, audiovisual documentaries, cultural performances, and fruitful discussion gearing attendees toward global citizenship. The Travis High School Auditorium will exhibit several booths maintained by organizations working towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This collaborative event is a proud FBISD moment as we shape the future by educating and actively leading in the present.
The Global Issues Summit exists to inspire present and future generations to take ownership of our country and world, promoting thought and community action. Since its founding conference eleven years ago, the Global Issues Summit has reached thousands of students and community members promoting advocacy and empowerment. Alongside community partners, the Global Issues Summit team hosts a unique experience that spirals change for years to come. Our impact is seen in the work of inspired students who have continued with summit contacts to volunteer, intern, advertise, and learn more of an issue they discovered! Most importantly, the summit is solution-oriented and looks for collaborative and unique ways to stand together to face the most difficult problems with well-constructed solutions.
